Interested in writing for Untamed Travel? Want to send us some photographs?

We do accept freelance submissions from writers and photographers. The rates in Thailand are nothing to get too excited about -- it's more like an honorarium with a bit of glory thrown in. That said, at the moment, there are few English or Thai language publications in Thailand buying freelance stories and photos, except for Untamed Travel.

What follows is a description of our requirements.

Information for Writers:

Please read the magazine carefully and send a proposal or two (save yourself the trouble of writing a whole story unless you really want to), explaining what ideas you have that you think would fit into the style, what section your story would best fit into, and the proposed length. While the format is not exactly carved in stone, you'll notice that there is a certain approach and that most of the stories peppered throughout the mag are around 800-1500 words. Please note that when we give you a word limit, we expect you to stick to it.

As much as possible, please include useful bits of information that enable the reader to try the experience themselves, such as location, price, pitfalls, etc. We are particularly interested in stories about unusual locations, offbeat things to do or human-interest pieces including encounters with particularly interesting travellers or locals. For travel pieces you can include things like a visit to a remote village or a road trip through the back door as a groundbreaking adventurer or something in say, Vientiane, Luang Prabang, Phnom Penh or wherever, that isn't on the standard tourist trail -- "hidden gems".

Please send story proposals to proposals@untamed-travel.com

Information for Photographers:

Photos of course make any story much more publishable, and we are also interested in photos even without an accompanying story. Don't worry if they aren't of top professional quality but we need them to reflect the lifestyle on the road -- both the things you see and also, the travellers themselves in various situations, whether rafting, jumping around at the Full Moon Party, sitting around a campfire, getting mauled by a Himalayan blackbear, etc.

What we have a lot of already are sunsets, photos of big-eyed cute children and most major tourist landmarks - you can buy collections of them royalty free at Panthip Plaza in Bangkok for about four bucks.

If you have photographs in digital format you can email a sample. Files should be in JPEG format and no larger than 75Kb- one to each email message. Please send no more than five samples with your full contact details.

Email photographs or queries to photoeditor@untamed-travel.com

If your images are prints, negs or transparencies then you can drop around to the office or send them via mail. Please note that if you require your images back you will have to collect them yourself or include payment for return postage
